Sita Gumpha, Nashik

Sita Gumpha

The Gumpha (i.e. Cave) is near the five Banyan trees in Panchavati. One can enter the cave with the help of a very narrow staircase. The cave has the idol of Shree Ram, Laxman and Sita. To
the left, one can enter into the cave having the Shiva Linga. Devotees believe that Ravan kidnapped Sita from the same place.

River Godavari flows through Nashik and its Northern part is called as Panchavati. It is said that lord Shri Ram and Sita along with Laxman stayed at Panchavati for some time. Thus Panchavati has gained holy importance. There are five Banyan (Vad) trees and hence the area is called Panchavati.Nearby is Sita Gumpha (cave) where Sita is said to have stayed for some time.

Nandur Madhameshwar Bird Sanctuary, Nashik

Nandur Madhameshwar Bird Sanctuary

Nandurmadhmeshwa, situated around 60 km from Nashik, is famous for housing a bird sanctuary. The bird sanctuary was established in the year 1950 and since then, has been serving as home to thousands of migratory birds. The best time to come here, for indulging in bird watching, is during the months of October to March.

One of the most popular excursions of Nashik is the Nandur Madhameshwar Bird Sanctuary. The sanctuary is home to a wide variety of wildlife, comprising of 220 species of birds, 24 species of fish and numerous mammals. It is spread over an area of approximately 10000 hectares and stands covered with 400 species of vegetation. Nandur Madhameshwar Bird Sanctuary claims the distinction of being listed as one of the important waterfowl habitats in the region, by the International Union of Conservation of Nature.

Coin Museum is one of the most popular tourist places in the Nashik city of Maharashtra. The museum has a fine collection of research and well-documented history of Indian currencies. The museum was founded under the Indian Institute of Research in Numismatic Studies, in the year 1980. The fact that adds to its attraction is that it is the only one of its kind museum in the whole of Asia.

The environment of the museum is so cool, as it is located in the backdrop of the enthralling Ajneri Hill of Nashik.

Pandavleni Caves, Nashik

Pandavleni Caves

Pandavleni caves are 2000-year-old, and it was built by the Jain Kings. It is a group of 24 Hinayana Buddhist Caves, which date back between 1st century BC and 2nd century AD. These caves are at a distance of 8 km from Nasik. Amongst all, cave number 3 and 10 are the best. Cave number 3 has a large Vihara with fascinating sculptures, cave number 10 is also a Vihara, but it is much older and finer than the cave number 3. It is believed to be as old as the Karla Cave near Lonavala.
